Learn about linked data

A CSU study group of librarians spent most of the 2024-2025 academic year learning about linked data-related workflows, tools and applications in the context of special collections and archives. We have compiled a list of resources and learning pathways for anyone to follow and engage in self-directed study. All curious library workers could work through some of those. We welcome you to engage in self-paced and role-relevant learning as it makes sense for you and your campus.

Some people from the CSU, entirely new to linked data, have also found the following learning sequences helpful. 

• 23 Linked Data Things This link will take you to an external website in a new tab.: A series of self-paced learning modules created by Minitex, a Minnesota-based library services organization supporting professional development
• Library Juice Academy Introduction to Linked Data This link will take you to an external website in a new tab.: a tuition-based course which is also part of a certificate program giving people new to XML and RDF a solid foundation in the key tools and concepts to become linked data practitioners.
• Infopeople offered a 6-week course in 2024 called “Creating and Retrieving Linked Data: Connecting Your Library Collections to the World” which could be offered again if you check out their website This link will take you to an external website in a new tab..

Finally, the CSU Linked Data Task Force conducted a Wikidata-focused learning project in 2023-2024. The learning sequence for that series is being converted into a self-directed module which anyone on any campus will be able to follow.  Access to those materials will be built out here This link will take you to an external website in a new tab..
